Rabbits – Home learning for 3rd June
Good morning Rabbits
It has been a great start to the week and I hope you are all back into the swing of things at home; mixing a bit of work with a lot of fun!
Handwriting – Please can you write out the spelling words for this week but I would like you to do this in a volcano shape.Ā I suggest that you draw the outline of the volcano on a piece of paper and then add the words to fill the shape of the volcano.
Reading:Ā I haveĀ two different reading tasks for you today – year 2 and year 3 but the year 3 task is quite advanced.Ā Good luck!
Year 3 (advanced) comprehension June 3rd
English:Ā please follow the BBC Bitesize for today.
Maths:Ā please work on the correct year group activity today:
Y3 Lesson 3 – Fractions of a set of objects (1) 2019
Y3 Lesson 3 Answers – Fractions of a set of objects (1) 2019
Project:Ā Today, I have set a more time-consuming challenge which should take you two days.Ā I hope that you have enjoyed learning a little about volcanoes.Ā You will have learned about the various vocabulary that is used, and also made a diagram about the Earth’s insides.Ā Today, I would like you to get crafty again.Ā Your challenge is to make an animation of a volcanic explosion.Ā You can use either drawings, models or pictures but you have to find a way to sequence the images so that they look like an explosion happening.
Drawing Animation:Ā we once made a zeotrope in class – a sequence of drawings that were slightly different each time but when you looked at them quickly, they appeared to be moving.Ā Here is a short clip that shows you how to create an animation using sketches.Ā I don’t think you need to see the whole thing – you will remember about drawing each picture slightly different –
Picture animation:Ā you can use pictures in a sequence, if you are able to find a series of still photos of a volcano eruption, you can sequence them and do the same action of flipping the pages to show the movement.
Model animation:Ā This is a bit more time consuming and tricky – but I think it is also a lot more fun and a wonderful challenge.Ā If you can model a volcano from clay, playdough or other modelling material, you can make the animation using a phone camera.Ā You need to take each picture then move the model a small amount. You can use different coloured clay or play dough for the lava flow and make it drip down the side of the volcano slowly.Ā See what wonders you can create!
I hope you have a wonderful day!

Dragonfly Class – Tuesday 2nd June
Morning all,
A quick thank you to Torin & his mum who notified me that they couldn’t find the classwork yesterday – I’m not sure if it was the same for everyone, apologies if so, but once they’d given me a quick heads up their problem was sorted. Please do give us a shout if there are any issues! We had a busy day in school yesterday – it was lovely to see all the teachers and TAs and talk about all of YOU! We very much look forward to your laughter and voices filling the classrooms again.Ā Mrs O says a huge ‘hello’ to each of you too! (She has curly hair and looked very glam!)
Here are your learning activities for today:
- Reading:Ā Bitesize had a great activity on the last day of last half term… I know some of you have even been getting the books to continue reading once you’ve completed these tasks! Have a go yourself by following the links:
2. Spellings:Ā Access the link below for your year group and learn the set list.Ā You could print the handwriting sheet OR present it in your Homework Pack.
3. Maths:

4. English:Ā You have an option this week, depending on what you prefer.

Option 2: Oak Academy – Izzy and Max produced some OUTSTANDING poetry from this unit of work before half-term that I have seen.
See the links below.
Option 1: Year 4 Bitesize (brackets)Ā orĀ Year 5 Bitesize
Option 2:Ā Lesson 1 – News Reports
Other ideas for Tuesday:
- PE:Ā Do what you can to get in your hour of exercise. I’ll be going for a bike ride today plus a dog walk later š
- TT Rockstars:Ā The Inter House TournamentĀ continues – your next match against each house! Play ‘Battle’ to earn your team points.
- Geography:
Check out the Geography learning on Bitesize today which is all about weather and climate. This is particularly significant at the moment as we are experiencing such hot, dry weather – I believe May was the driest since 1896! It’s causing a huge amount of difficulties for farmers too;Ā the crops aren’t growing and the soil is desperately dry. As a task, could you present a weather videoĀ to teach your viewers what the weather has been like, the current situation and maybe even forecast what it’s going to be like this week? Good luck! (I always wanted to be a weather presenter when I was little!)
Have a great day – remember your suncream and hats!

Can you now do one of your amazing cartoon-strips for me?Ā I would like 8 squares each showing the sequence of the volcano’s eruption.Ā You can use vibrant colours and you need to explain in one sentence, what is happening in each of the pictures.Ā Remember this is an ACTIVE VOLCANO as it is exploding right now!Ā You could give your volcano a name – something that sounds exciting or from a distant place.
For your reading – I have includedĀ a legend of a volcano – they are all around the earth and these legends that I will give you to read each day will show you where on earth they have appeared over the centuries:
Activity idea for everyone from Anouk: Puppetry!
Anouk has sent in a link to a brilliant website which is full of ideas linking to puppetry, in case this interests you.
https://www.beverleypuppetfestival.com/activities
I think the leatherback turtle puppet looks amazing! I’d love to make this, although I have a feeling my skills will begin with the ‘potato monsters’ or ‘playing with food’!
