Autumn in Hedgehog class
Hello Reception and Year 1!
A very warm welcome to our classroom! We hope you have all had a lovely break and are ready for an exciting year of learning, exploring and growing together.
We have been very busy preparing our classroom to create a welcoming, calm and engaging environment where every child can feel happy, confident and ready to learn.
Our classroom has lots of different areas for the children to explore, including reading, phonics, maths, creative activities, construction and role play. We want to encourage the children to be curious, make choices and develop their independence through learning and play.
We will also make the most of our outdoor space, giving the children opportunities to explore, investigate and develop their physical skills.

We are really looking forward to getting to know the children and watching them learn, grow and flourish throughout the year.
Our PE lesson will take place on:
- Monday
Our forest school session will take place on:
- Tuesday afternoon
Please ensure that children come to school dressed in their PE kit/forest school clothes on these days. Can we ask that children have waterproofs, wellies, hat, gloves and scarves on days that weather permits.
We are delighted to have such a wonderful team working alongside the children this year:
- Mrs Dyke will be our Teaching Assistant full time Monday-Friday.
- Miss Darling will be joining us Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and all day Thursday and Friday.
- Mrs Maund, our HLTA will also be working with us in the classroom every Wednesday.
Below, you will find our class timetable along with the knowledge organisers for the subjects we will be covering this term.
The knowledge organisers provide an overview of what the children will be learning, together with some of the key vocabulary and important information they will be introduced to throughout the term.
I hope you find these resources useful in helping you to understand and support your child’s learning at home. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Year 1- Homework and spellings will be:
- Given out every Wednesday
- Returned by the following Wednesday
Year 1 children will complete their spelling test on Wednesdays, so please encourage them to practise their spellings regularly throughout the week.
We are looking forward to a happy and successful term with the children!
Welcome to our classroom — we can’t wait for the year ahead! 🌟
Best wishes,
Miss Harper-Maund
