Corbet Area Cross Country

We took our WHOLE KS2 to the Corbet Area Cross-Country competition recently. This was the first time that some of the children had taken part in a competitive event. Every child completed the course and we are really proud of our team and individual results:

Year 3 Girls – 3rd Overall

Year 4 Girls – 1st Overall

Year 5 Girls – 2nd Overall

Year 6 Boys – 2nd Overall

EFL Cup – Montgomery Meadow Football

Our football team had a great session out today where they participated in the STFC EFL Cup. They managed to keep very close score-lines on the day, drawing 1-1 with Apley Wood but losing 1-0 to West Felton and 3-1 to St Giles. The boys showed brilliant team spirit and did us proud. A special congratulations to Jackson for his exemplary sportsmanship, Andreas for his determination in goal and also Jamie for his skilful play and for scoring two goals.

Thank you to Jonny and the team at STFC for hosting such a great event!

Hi-5 Netball Tournament – 3rd place!

Our sporting calendar kicked off to a great start this week at the Hi-5 Netball tournament at the Corbet School. We are super-proud of our team who were undefeated and came 3rd overall, only just missing out on the final! This was a fantastic achievement, particularly as our team consisted of players from Year 4 (Charley) facing squads of Year 6 children from other schools. We have been busy training and learning the rules (of which there are many!) during break times and lunch times where the children have been a pleasure to coach.

Well done to Ella, Mia, Charley, Alice, Arthur, Jamie and Andreas – you have done us proud as always.

Platinum Award for PE & School Sport

We are delighted to announce St John’s has received a prestigious Platinum Award from the School Games for 2021-22.

Platinum press release – click here for more info

Each year, we submit evidence to our School Games Organiser who verifies the level of award earned. This year, following five consecutive ‘Gold’ awards, we were one of very few primary schools in Shropshire to receive the Platinum Award.

Our School Games Organiser, Mollie Croxon, wrote: ” It’s lovely to read how much you prioritize physical activity and sport at St Johns for all students also. You have received platinum which is fantastic and well deserved for your continued efforts over the years!”

Miss Whit (PE Co-ordinator) presents the School Games Platinum Award to members of the new Sports Council 2022.

Football Friendly ⚽️ ⚽️⚽️

We had a fantastic afternoon today as Baschurch brought two football teams for a set of matches. Ruyton kicked off with a great 2-0 win, followed by a Baschurch penalty in the second game leading to a 1-0 Baschurch win. The last two games were both at 0-0!

A brilliant effort from all the boys from both schools; it was fantastic to see such talent and effort.

A special thank you to ex-pupil (and football legend!) Will Thomas and his friend Sam who came and refereed the matches. Superstars!

Jubilee Fun Run

We had a brilliant day of Jubilee celebrations on Friday with a Jubilee Fun Run! Dressed in red, white and blue, the whole school got warmed up and took part in a sponsored run, organised by the Friends of Ruyton.

We were delighted to welcome Mr & Mrs Gittins to the event to not only start the races, but join in too!

Thank you to Mr & Mrs Gittins for spending the morning with the children and also Mrs Aspinall & Mrs Beddoes for their help on the day. We can’t wait to find out how much money was raised!

Shrewsbury Half Marathon miles begin…!

The Ruyton Runners took to the fields at lunch time today to complete their first mile. It was inspiring to see so many runners from Reception to Year 6 running together – there are 33 runners in total taking part in this challenge!

Many of these runners had signed up to complete the Shrewsbury Half Marathon on Saturday 9th April – one mile down, 13 to go!
