This afternoon we have made the most of the sun and took our learning outside! Our book this term is Julius Caesar and today we had a go at rehearsing and performing the first scene of the play. We had some fantastic performances! Well done team!

Over this half term I would like you to complete these tasks, some might take longer than others! Bring them in on the last week of this half term, and we will have a homework gallery to display all of your fantastic home learning. If you need to borrow any resources from school to be able to join in and complete these tasks, please let me know. I can’t wait to see what you create!
Welcome back Hedgehogs Class, I hope you all had a lovely Easter break filled with happy memories but also a well-earned rest! 🐰🐣🐥
Our topic this half term is ‘Traditional Tales’, where we will be learning about lots of different fairy tales. At the beginning of next term, we will be going on our trip to Wonderland (I hope you are as excited about it as I am!). To find out more about our learning for Summer term, please see the following:
We will start swimming lessons on Fridays, and you should have received a letter letting you know which weeks your child will be swimming. All children will need to be in PE kit on Fridays (instead of Mondays). If it is your week for swimming please bring your swimming kit with you too.

Welcome back to school for Summer Term 2026 – we hope you all had a fun-filled and refreshing Easter break!
Summer term is always jam-packed and full of some of our favourite activities including Sports Day, St John the Baptist Day, Swimming lessons and all our summer sports events – keep up to date with the school diary and letters for more information. We’ve also got Arts Week, ‘No Pens Day’ and ‘Have Fun for Harry’ day coming up – just some of the things to look forward to!
Of course, it’s an important term for our Year 6. We will be really proud to see our Year 6 sit their SATs on the week commencing May 11th – they have already worked so hard. However, even more exciting will be all of the leavers celebrations that will then begin! Leavers trips, leavers speeches and celebration assemblies will soon be upon us (plus a summer of Year 6 insisting on wearing their leavers hoodies everyday, regardless of the weather!)
We can’t wait to get the term started! As always, information about learning in class this term can be found on the class information page (link Class Owls Information | St John The Baptist CE Primary School Ruyton XI Towns). We will also continue to welcome student teacher Miss Clarke who will continue her placement with us for the first half-term.
You can keep updated with our class shenanigans via the website notice board: Parents’ Area | St John The Baptist CE Primary School Ruyton XI Towns and also class notice board.
Here’s hoping for a sunny summer term ahead! We look forward to seeing you all this week,
Mrs Cook, Miss Whit, Mrs Grogan & Mrs Maund 🙂 x
Today we completed an extended write following a unit on The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde.
To teach writing, we focus on specific skills and aim to put them into practise throughout the unit / book. This unit has focused on relative clauses, semi-colons (for Year 6), parenthesis and small details for description.
Some brilliant pieces of writing have been produced. Here is an example below of one of our fantastic Year 6 writers, Lucy. Well done Owl Class!

I have been so impressed with the level of enthusiasm and effort that has been put into this half term’s homework. The children were tasked with creating; a mini habitat museum, a robot explorer treasure map, an emotion weather forecast, a model of an explorer vehicle and a waterproof explorer shelter. These tasks were all linked to our learning over the past half term.
This afternoon we have set up a homework gallery and the children have really enjoyed talking about their creations! Great work Rabbits 🙂
