Celebration Assembly 19.05 – SO much to celebrate!

Posted on May 19, 2023 by Jen Whittingham

Wow… where do we start this week?! There has been so much brilliance and fun goings-on at St John’s – LET’S CELEBRATE!

Here are some updates from an array of in-school events that have taken place this week…

Coronation Fun Run

Monday was a brilliant morning at school as we all dressed-up and worked-up a sweat for a 25 minute Fun Run which had been organised by our wonderful Friends of the School. We are still awaiting the final total from sponsorship – watch this space!

Rounders

A Year 5/6 team attended the Corbet Area Rounders Tournament – they played brilliantly, put all their PE learning to the test and came 3rd overall out of 8 schools!

Football friendly v Myddle Primary

A group of Year 4/5/6 children enjoyed a super football match on Thursday evening when we hosted Myddle Primary. Evan and Mia played their first match for the school – they played fantastically! Overall, the match finished 2-2 but St John’s went on to win on penalties… A big shout-out to George, our brave Goalkeeper, who did a sterling job to save some shots!

Super Swimmer

Also on Thursday evening, Year 6 Elliot has been elected to attend swimming trials for the North Shropshire West Team at Oswestry School. Elliot competed in four races (back stroke, breast stroke, front crawl and butterfly)  and we are delighted to announce that he WON THEM ALL! Elliot – we are all so proud of you.

Next he will represent North Shropshire West in The Primary Schools County Gala at the end of June. Go Elliot, go!

Here are all our usual Weekly Celebrations too:

Acorn Awards (earning House Points with two pupils chosen per class; awarded by teachers for class-based work / learning attitudes):

Beau – For working so carefully in all her assessments & giving her best everyday

Evan & Mia – For representing Ruyton in football and playing their first match! A brilliant display of skill and confidence from both.

Nancy – for great listening

Oscar – for lovely manners and a great attitude to learning

Charlie J – for super reading – well done!

Laurie – for doing everything with a smile on his face!

Ariyana – for working so hard on writing

Archie –  for excellent effort in assessment week

Robyn – for excellent effort in reading assessments

Bumblebees Star of the Week

Congratulations to Oakley for achieving Star of the Week this week! He earned it for following all the rules in Bumblebees and showing great listening. Well done Oakley, keep it up!

Raffle ticket winners (awarded by staff for lining-up or behaviour around school)

Plus an extra winner in Rabbit Class as they had the most tickets this week 👏

Swimming Award

We celebrated James’ AMAZING achievement of Level 1 in Learn to Swim – this is incredible for one of our Bumblebees children! We are super proud of you James – keep it up!

Athletics Winner

Year 6, George, shared his recent achievements with us too as he participated in an Athletics Competition in Telford. George had great finishes in sprint races, but also shone in the Long Jump where he won the event! Incredible effort Geroge, keep up the great work with Shrewsbury Athletics Club.

Phew…. That was a big week! Coming up next week:

  • Year 6 are out today at an Archery Festival at the Ironworks Centre (Oswestry) – we look forward to hearing all about it.
  • Year 6 are out (again!) to Crucial Crew on Monday to learn all about staying safe in the wider world
  • Swimming: it’s the final week for Rabbits & Dragonflies next Friday – keep up the great work!
  • Year 4 – have a great time next Friday at Lichfield Cathedral for an Inspire Workshop… it sounds intriguing!
