What a week back it has been! Owl Class 2026-27 you have made a cracking start. Here are some updates from the Owlery this week…
Harry : Harry’s friendship towards Zander this week has been effortless and heartfelt. Zander has managed his first week back with a broken arm! However, Harry (and Felicity!) have been the best table partners by scribing all written work with Mrs. Grogan on hand ready to photocopy it all… amazing teamwork Zander, Harry, Felicity & Mrs G!
Sid
A special mention to Sid this week who has blown us away with his work ethic and determination to show his best. Year 6 suits you Sid!
Mrs Powell
We felt very privileged to have a final lesson with Mrs Powell before she goes off on maternity leave. Beau’s work ended up on display on our new Owl Wall of Wisdom having produced a beautiful poster around our key new school values: Love, Respect & Perseverance. Good luck in your next chapter, Mrs. Powell – we are so going to miss you!
Maths: tackling the puzzling world of Roman numerals did fry our brains on Wednesday ….! But we finished the week by showing off excellent knowledge in numbers to 100,000 (Year 5) and 10 million (Year 6). Great questions to ask us this weekend:
- How do we write different years in Roman numerals?
- How do we read numbers up to 100,000 (year five) and 10 million (year six)? Don’t let us forget to put the commas in the right place..!
English: This week we have enjoyed reading and watching a whole range of poetry including Chocolate by Michael Rosen, Please Mrs. Butler by Alan Ahlberg ( which Blake brought to life in his performance!), The Moon by Sylvia Ann Duffy, Silver and Walk in Beauty plus more! We have begun to identify features of poetry including rhythm, rhyme, similes, personification and onomatopoeia… see if your grown ups can spell that one! Next week we will start writing our own poetry to perform.
Computing
Key reminders were set this week about Internet Safety: using computers safely in school and at home. Our key message was: tell, report, block. We love computers and the online world but are developing our understanding of using it safe safely.
PE
What a Friday lesson! Two football matches: one refereed and coached by the injured Zander and Nancy, and one by Miss Whit. Andre did a cracking job at keeping Oscar under control (although he managed two brilliant goals!), whilst Jacob made a brilliant keeper! Charlie scored a great penalty and George showed brilliant skill throughout . Owl class – it was a joy to teach you today; your teamwork and friendship shone during two brilliant games which developed skills whilst being managed by the children. Keep this up!

Undeniably we had a good giggle making each other giggle during a very giggly set a photographs! We look forward to the results!
RE
This week got us remembering the visit some of our children experienced to the Telford mosque when they were in Hedgehog class! We revised our learning about Islam and enjoyed learning current statistics from the 2021 census and statistics which show us what the world would look like if it were 100 people. How many do you think would be Christian, Muslim, or no religion at all? We were equally astonished to find out how many people still have no clean drinking water, no education or mobile phones..!
PSHE
Picture News took over today with the big question: should we be exploring outer space? Felicity thought no, we should be focusing the money and effort on finding a cure for cancer and other diseases… whilst other children including Aoife found it inspirational that Nancy Grace Roman was a pioneering female being acknowledged for all her work towards space telescopes. Consequently yes, space exploration is totally worth it! What do you think?
History
We began our topic looking at war through the ages. We asked: what is war? This brought on a fantastic conversation about what the children already knew including their awareness of Iran, Iraq, Ukraine, Falklands and the World Wars. We then took it back to 43AD, the Roman Invasion and Boudiccas revolt to ask : raid, invade, settle or defend?! Our inquiry will continue next week!
And the best news for Owl children this weekend…. No homework! You have worked so hard this week – enjoy a relaxing weekend and be ready for your first full week back next week. Don’t forget to wear your PE kit Monday.
