The Reception children had a fantastic morning this morning to kick off our new topic “People Who Help Us”. We started the morning at Oswestry Library. We met Cathy, the Deputy Librarian who read a story to us in the children’s area.
Then we went on a dragon hunt around the library. This helped us get to know the different areas within the library such as the talking book area, local history area and the self-issue machine.
We were then given the chance to spend some time in the library choosing some books to have a look at and read ourselves. Mrs Farmer, Mrs Dyke and Mrs Viner really enjoyed spending some time reading to the children!
After the library, we visited Clark’s shoe shop where the ladies in the shop spoke to us about their job role and how they measure people’s feet to make sure that they get the right shoe size. The children were very excited to take their shoes off and get their own feet measured!
When we had finished asking our questions at Clark’s, we went to visit Vision Express. We learnt that people can go to see an optician to get their eyesight healthy. We know that this is to make sure that their eyes are healthy and working as they should do. We loved going in here as we got to try on some glasses in the shop!
We finished our trip at Philip Paul Ltd. The children were excited to go here to see how mechanics can help us. They met Paul who showed them some tools, ramps and what is hiding under the bonnet of a car.
When we had finished looking in the workshop and asking Paul lots of questions, we enjoyed having a look at a Mini in the showroom (both inside and out!)
What a busy morning we had! We can’t wait to find out more about People Who Help Us over the next few weeks!
