This morning, we took the opportunity to go outside and explore the ice. The children were fascinated by the ice that they found. We learnt that it had been so cold outside last night, the water in the trays had turned to ice. It was so hard that the boat wouldn’t even move! We thought of lots of words to describe the ice such as slippery, cold, freezing, shiny and see-through. We then explored what would happen if we threw it on the floor. We came up with some lovely vocabulary for this too such as “shattered”. We enjoyed using our listening skills to find out what ice sounds like if we stamp or tread on it.
