Admissions Policy – 2026-27

Shropshire Church of England Academies Trust is the admission authority for St John the Baptist CE Primary School and Nursery.  The Trust has determined that admissions will be co-ordinated by Shropshire Local Authority.

Applications to school:

To apply for a school place, parents in England must apply to their home local authority (to whichever local authority they make council tax payments to) even if thy are applying for a school place in another part of England.  Parents make one application, naming schools in order of their preference.  The application process is the same even if a school is its own admission authority (eg foundation school, or an academy).  Our school is an academy.  Shropshire Church of England Academies Trust determine the admissions policy for the school but the School Admissions Team at Shropshire Local Authority manage the application process in accordance with our published over subscription criteria.

Parents of children in Shropshire wishing to apply for a school place, will be required, in the Autumn Term prior to the school year of admission, to complete an LA application form.  Parents are notified of places towards the end of the Spring Term for Reception places.  Specific dates and information is given in the LA Information Pack available on the council’s website.

Parents of Reception children in Shropshire will be required in the Autumn Term prior to the school year of admission to complete the online application at www.shropshire.gov.uk/schooladmissions If there are more applications for places than are available within the admission limit, then priority will be given based on:
Looked After and Post Looked After pupils,  Residence in catchment area, Sibling connection, Proximity of home address to school, Medical circumstances or Education, Health and Care Plan.  See our policies page for the up to date admissions policy.

Parents should be aware that attendance at a particular primary school does not in any way guarantee a place at a particular secondary school.
