Snow Day Activities ❄️☃️

Good morning Hedgehogs!

Due to the snowy weather, today will be a remote‑learning day. We know that every family’s situation is different, so the activities are designed to be simple, flexible, and easy to complete at home.

Here are some suggested activities for today, please don’t worry about completing everything:

Phonics

  • Read some of your school reading book aloud to an adult.
  • Write two words with the ‘w’ sound and two words with the ‘x’ sound. Draw a picture for each.
  • Practise writing some CVC words. Here are some examples: Winter Phase 2 CVC word building activity

Maths

  • Subitising to 5 – Make snowballs, or have a look for natural objects such as sticks, pine cones and rocks, and see how many different ways you can make 1 – 5 (e.g. 1 and 4, 2 and 3 making 5). You can also do this with objects at home if you’d prefer to stay warm!
  • Mass & Capacity – Use natural or household objects to fill different sized containers/cups. Describe the containers, are they tall, narrow, wide, shallow? How many objects filled each container? Does each container hold the same number?
  • Mass & Capacity – Making sure you wear warm gloves, fill different sized containers with snow. How many handfuls were needed to fill each container?

Literacy/Understanding the World

  • What clothes should I pack for a trip out in the winter in Ruyton XI Towns? Draw and label your warm winter outfit.

Physical Development

  • Practise your fine motor skills with these snowy winter colouring sheets Winter-colouring-sheets or draw your own winter pictures.
  • Go on a winter trail and tick off what you can see. You could use this checklist for ideas Winter nature trail checklist or create your own.
  • Build or draw a snowman. What clothes will your snowman wear?

Most importantly, make sure you enjoy the snow while it’s here! Wrap up warm, stay safe, and make memories! ❄️☃️❄️☃️

Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday,

Miss O’Rafferty
